Van's Club de France fly in Mende

Poor weather in southern France Prevented members of PFC from from being able to attend this years flyin but with aircraft at the ready and excellent weather in Northern France it was decided to fly To Quiberon just north of la Baule and take advantage of some French Hospitality.

Quiberon is a peninsular island joined by a short (road causeway) just to the south of Lorient, at the southern most tip lies a runway that extends almost to the beach. We were gven a very warm "welcome to Quiberon" as we taxied in by the controller, and having tied down and removed our overnight bags we relaxed on the club terrace overlooking the runway and watched a stream of tandam parachute drops over a cool beer or two. The town boasts two harbour areas one old and one new each side of the island both with an excellent choice of bars and restaurants.

During the next morning a fellow french pilot  Christian Roux insisted that we fly down the picturesque coast to where he lived at la Baule where, he informed us you could always find the cheapest Avgas in france. how could we refuse!

After we landed were once again given a very warm welcome  and after once again tying down our aircraft for the night we were driven to a small hotel just on the outskirts of La Baule. We decided that we all needed a bit of exercise so we all agreed to walk to town as we had been told it was just a 10 minute walk, an hour later! we arrived in town center only to be told that we would have to wait untill after midnight for a table! however it was not long before we found an excellent retaurant not far away, later as we left the restaurant we hailed  a Taxi back to the hotel.

the next morning at the airfield I took Christian for a flight over his local area where pointed out to me the local peat bogs and sea salt refining beds along the local coastline.

We next decided to fly up to Granville on our return journey  for another overnight before flying along the Normandy beaches and popping into Jersey to top our tanks off with duty free fuel £1.29 a litre.

What a great weekend
